Description

Insert an object. Insert location key at frames 1 and 11. Turn on Object/Duplication/Frames. Nothing happens.

Similarly, parent an object to a bezier curve (follow path). Turn on dupliframes. Nothing happens.

Both approaches worked in 2.49 with dupliframes button. Neither work in 2.53 or 2.54. I didn't test with previous versions.

Blender 2.54 (BF official release)
XP/32, Radeon HD 2400 Pro

Forget it. I have realised (finally) that you have to uncheck the "speed" button.

I will put it onto the Blenderartists forum in case it can help somebody else.

Great you got it sorted out! Closing.

Can we get this re-opened? Dupliframes are working for me only under extremely specific situations.

As edna originally stated:

Insert an object.
Insert location key frames at 1 and 40 (any other frame) with some translation between.
Turn on Object->Duplication->Frames
Uncheck Speed.

Nothing happens.

Well, "nothing" is a little less than true. At the top right of the screen where it displays the number of verticies and faces in the scene, the number increases by the amount that would be expected if the duplis were actually there.

Control+Shift+A to "Make Duplis Real" also does nothing. It does however turn Frames off under Object->Duplication and the vertex count goes back down to what it was before enabling duplication to begin with, so these "phamtom duplis" are going away.

They do work under one situation however:

Add a bezier circle
Add a cube
Select the cube and circle, press Control+P (parent), select Follow Path from the popup menu for the parent type.
Activate Object->Duplication->Frames, and deselect "speed", the duplis appear!

However, not if we use a Constraint for path following instead of Parent:

Add a bezier circle
Add a cube
Select the cube
Object Constraints->Add Constraint->Follow Path
Set Target to the circle
Set Object->Duplication->Frames, and deselect "speed"
Nothing happens (though again, the vertex count goes up as though the duplis were there!)

I've been searching for info in case I'm doing something wrong all morning, but have found nothing but closed bugs and recommendations to disable "speed"

I'm using Offical 2.54.0 r31878, but I also tried a few other builds, including an unofficial r32834, which still shows the issue.

I miss my duplis! :(

DupliFrames still not working and we're on 2.56a Beta!
Please add this. I don't want to have to keep relying on 2.49

Since bug report status is Rejected/Closed I will have to open a new report.
