Appending armatures with custom bone shapes brings no custom objects into scene.. impossible to edit

Relates to: T27452

Appending an armature with custom objects it brings the objects to the blend file so they DO work on the armature; however! the objects are not linked to any scene so they are impossible to edit. This could be OK if there was a way to link objects to scene (not python) but AFAIK there isn't any?

The 'fix' in 36762 is the wrong approach IMO, and #27452 was caused by this.

I think there are likely to be enough other cases like this that an operator for users to manually fix this sort of thing, which asks which object to link into the current scene. This could also be useful for instance for getting objects from other scenes into the current scene.

committed correct fix r36810. agree there could be a tool to deal with these cases too.
