Could you please try to change drawing options in User Preferences? Like disable/enable VBO, try different Window Draw Method, disable multisample or Anisotropic Filtering…

tried different settings :(
No progress

Changing drawing options in User Preferences, and enabling /disabling VBO and other things you said does not bring any changes.

When I press plus or minus button in NumPad (to zoom in any windows) all texts becomes OK. No problem then. But when I restart Blender problem shows again.

And there is no texture panel too

I installed 2.69.10 it shows no problem. everything is in place.
Problem exists only in my 2.70

Thanks for all those tests… Maybe some win dev could check this, no problem here. :/

I don't have any issue on Windows 7 with Geforce 540M or Intel HD 3000.

Maybe try to update the GPU driver?

ameen vengara (ameen_vga) added a comment.Mar 20 2014, 12:28 PM

Blender 2.69.10 shows no problem. I use that now. not using 2.70. That's all I can do now.

Thanks for those nice replies. I have recorded a video of my Blender problem..
If you have time, please go through it..

Looks like its always the same letters that are missing (I, n, o, etc.). Since room is there, it’s clearly GPU texture issue (Blender uses textures to draw its letters)…

Might be a memory limit issue (how much graphic mem does your card have ?), shown because some other part of Blender 2.70 eats a bit more mem… Or just a driver bug, HD5450 is a rather old, very low-end GPU too, usually not top priority in newest drivers :/

All this to say that I don’t think we can do much about that issue.

I wasnt able to reproduce the bug on 2 computers.
I tried changing many settings, Draw method, VBO, region overlap, Multisample, Collection Rate, International Fonts, etcetera.

Blender 2.70 win 32 bit #19e627c.
Windows 7 home premium 64 bit NVIDIA GfForce 9200.
Windows 7 home premium 32 bit AMD Radeon HD 7310M.

Looking at the pictures, panel header labels dont seem to be affected.

Thanks for your kindness. It is time to change my Graphics Card..Again thanks to everyone. :)

Same thing here (win 7, 32 bit, ATI Radeon 5600 series)

Have the exact same problem.. video card and more importantly; A Solution.

Go to User Preferences, Themes
Then select text style. In my case some text sizes were set to 11 px. Changing this to 12 px solved the issue!!

Cheers,
Wicherd

PS. One letter remains missing. That's the F. But I can manage without so far...

Edit: setting Text size to 14 px solved the F-matter

Does the issue exist when running blender-softwaregl from the official archives?

Closing this for now, no answer since more than a month. Anyway, 99.99% sure it’s another driver issue…

luis.boisvert@gmail.com (luis.boisvert) added a subscriber: luis.boisvert@gmail.com (luis.boisvert).Apr 20 2015, 7:31 PM

I have experienced this issue consistently since 2.70.

System 1:

Acer Aspire One D270
Intel Atom N2600 @ 1.6GHz
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600 Series (idgumd32.dll version 8.14.8.1075)
Win 7 Starter
1GB Ram

System 2:

As above
Win 7 Ultimate
2GB Ram

On both machines, 2.69 works fine but 2.70+ renders all text missing. Pressing Numpad +/- causes some letters on the screen to flash and disappear. At certain zoom levels a handfull of letters will stay visible.

The driver listed is the latest available for this hardware.
Neither machine seems to have any video problems outside of Blender.

Thomas Dinges (dingto) added a comment.Apr 20 2015, 7:41 PM

There are many known issues with these old Intel GPUs, we cannot fix that. Also note that System 1 is below our minimum specs. http://www.blender.org/download/requirements/

luis.boisvert@gmail.com (luis.boisvert) added a comment.Apr 20 2015, 7:59 PM

I wouldn't expect anyone here to want to troubleshoot a video card, but I'm not convinced that there is anything wrong with it. Neither system experiences any problems with any application except for Blender, and even then only versions past 2.69, and only with regard to text rendering in the UI.

Either system runs Blender up to 2.74 with no other issues, insofar as I was able to test by bumbling through a blank interface.

Something about the way Blender creates the text must have changed between 2.69 and 2.70. Is there some way it can be configured to render text the same way as it had been doing before 2.70?

Did you ever change window draw method

Sergey Sharybin (sergey) added a comment.Apr 21 2015, 9:30 AM

In order to figure out whether it is opengl issue or not, download opengl32.dll from ftp://ftp.blender.org/sergey/softwaregl/ and put it next to blender.exe. This will switch blender to fully software opengl mode which is slower but is free from driver/videocard specific issues.

luis.boisvert@gmail.com (luis.boisvert) added a comment.EditedApr 21 2015, 6:34 PM

@Sergey Sharybin (sergey): Thanks for the .dll. It does render text if I put that in place.
@Aaron Carlisle (Blendify): I haven't been really able to tweak settings as all options are missing their text. Now that I have this DLL and can temporarily run it in software mode, I will have a look at the window draw method and see if there is a combination of settings that will allow me to use hardware mode.

Edit: I have tested each window draw method, with no luck.
I also tried setting the font size to different values to see if that would make a difference as mentioned above. Various settings, no apparent difference.

The performance while using the software .dll is not usable (~0.7 fps in UI), however I can overwrite my video driver with VGA-Generic and get about the same performance as usual.

Unless anyone has more suggestions for settings that might make a difference in Blender, I suppose the best solution is to just run my system with the VGA-Generic driver. I do wish we could figure out what changed between 2.69 and 2.70 and come up with a workaround within Blender, but that is probably unrealistic.

Thanks for your suggestions.
