Hello, I have downloaded 2.79b several times and tested it in windows and Linux --Ubuntu Mate. and the selecting edges does not work with the Shift Key or the Alt key. for selecting all edges.

On some Linux distributions, Alt + click is used by the window manager to move windows. In that case the shortcut can't be used.

I don't have Ubuntu Mate installed to test, but probably something like this works to disable the shortcut for the window manager:

Otherwise the shortcut needs to be changed to something else in Blender itself.
