Description

System Information
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770
RAM: 12GB DDR3
GFX: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4gb (NVIDIA Web Drivers)
OS: macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 17F77

Blender Version
Blender 2.79b

In a relatively small file I've been working on (testing out using Blender to make levels to drop into Unity later), I noticed that Blender will crash on my Hackintosh when doing a save over. At first, I thought it was a file access issue that was being disguised as an odd NVIDIA related crash (the macOS log includes bits about NVIDIA). I saved it to my desktop and it saved just fine. Then, I proceeded to do another save over which crashed again. Not sure what the issue is with the file or if its an attribute issue (started happening specifically after I started adding modifiers, which didn't save during the crash so when I tested again on my desktop, they weren't present)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open attached file.
  2. Attempt save over.

I have not tested this on other platforms/OSes/devices. I will test on my MacBook Pro (with AMD graphics) and report back to let you know.

Also attached here is the generated macOS problem report. I noticed at the top of the stack was some nvidia web driver stuff so I'm curious to see if that has something to do with it.

Cannot reproduce here on linux… Sounds more like an issue specific to your system, if such thing was happening widely we would have heard of it I bet. ;)

@Arto Kitula (akitula) can you check that on OSX, just in case? thanks.

Unable to repro, but as I see it, there is no textures packed into .blend file so might be that we're skipping something.
Crashlog says that Threads 1 to 8 were doing same thing and 1 crashed. (IlmThread)

Tested on my MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

System Information
CPU: Intel Core i7-6820HQ
RAM: 16gb LPDDR3
GFX: AMD Radeon Pro 455 2GB
OS: macOS Mojave Beta 10.14 18A336e

Did not crash on save over, so it's some oddity with my Hackintosh. I was able to add the modifiers like I wanted to and save over the file and whatnot. I did notice that preferences opened when I opened the file which I thought was kind of weird.

@Mike Santiago (suicvne) Could you pack images to the .blend and post it again, just to make sure it doesn't happen on while some image processing. (long shot, but still).

Just tried that just now on my Hackintosh (File -> External Data -> Pack All into .blend). This completed successfully but upon attempting a save over again, I got what looks to be the same crash as before.

Now save it to other location, and upload that file (with images packed) to this ticket, thanks!

This is really hackintosh problem, not blender problem. Because in the end, it's non-supported platform, closing ticket.
