asus strix 1080ti, windows 10 64bit latest updates for everything

Blender Version
Broken: latest release on steam

Short description of error
CTD on launch. Will flash a cmd as well as a grey window for a second.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Does downloading and running the release from https://www.blender.org/ work?
  • In general, it can help to uninstall all graphics drivers, and install the latest one from the NVidia website with the Clean Installation option checked.

I did both of those and it still crashes at launch.

This is most likely crashing for the same reason as 2.78. I suspect this is caused by corrupted CUDA or OpenCL drivers.

  • Can you attach the output of running Help > System Info in 2.78?
  • Do you have any graphics drivers for Intel or AMD installed?
  • Can you try running a program like http://cuda-z.sourceforge.net/, does it work or also crash on startup?
