animation extremely slow in 3d view if I open the outliner in it's own window.

click on the view menu in the outliner and select to open the area in a new window. Then play the animation. It's extremely slow compared to having no areas open in new windows.

Did you forget to attach a test file?

I can't reproduce this with the default cube scene at least.

Hi Sebastien, I cant share the file as it's under NDA, but it's nothing overly complex. Just some scattered trees and 5 animated characters. does the same even if I solo one portion of the scene, a helmet for example. I'm on two monitors if that could be a factor? (although even if both windows are on the same screen it still happens.)

Maybe, it is hard to tell. I have a lot of other bugs I need to review, could you create an example file for me?

That way at least I we know that you have issues with that file and I can see if I have them too.

Sure thing, I just need to figure out how to output an individual node from a material to it's own mask or pass, so I can use it in the compositor, then I'll get it made for you. Trying to avoid duplicating objects or creating new scenes just to apply a different material if possible.
