Description

System Information
Operating system: macOS High Sierra; Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3; 16 GB ram
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB

Blender Version
Broken: Vers. 2.80 Beta (2019-02-06)
Wacom Pen will not draw in Grease Pencil mode. I can select, move, Sculpt, Annotate, Erase, etc., but the pen will not draw. My pen works great in Vers. 2.79, as well as other programs on my computer, i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

Also, when I choose Object/Grease Pencil/Monkey, the only thing that appears is the default cube with an empty. This is what also appears when I select "Stroke" and "Blank".

The "exact steps" are: Select "Draw" mode; select "Pen"; select a color. When the pen touches the tablet surface, Grease Pencil screen has green/purple pixelation...I cannot make a stroke with the pen tool.

So you mean that you can't add GP objects? Can you draw with your mouse or does that not work either?

{F6528389Thanks, Sebastian, for responding so quickly! When I go to “Add”, then “Grease Pencil”, then “Monkey”, the default cube appears with an empty centered. Likewise, when I select “Stroke”, the same default cube/empty appears; same with “Blank”.

Also, I cannot draw with either my pen OR mouse. Same thing happens with both…I get “electric looking” green and blue/purple on screen. It remains on the screen until I hit the escape key. I can use the pen for most everything else, i.e. select, move, sculpt, annotate...

Thanks again,

@William Reynish (billreynish) Is the missing GP objects when adding them something you can reproduce?

Yes, every time. No matter whether I use Shift/A/GP/Monkey, or whether I use my mouse and select Add/GP/Monkey, it produces the image below:

The same thing occurs, whether I use my mouse to select Add, or whether I use my pen to select Add.

I think this is actually a problem with buggy GPU drivers. I think that you are not able to see GP strokes due to this.

You card is .~11 years old now (4xxx series was launched in 2008).

@Clément Foucault (fclem) I guess there is not much we can do in this case?

This was an issue with previous Implementation. I'm fairly sure this has been fixed already since 2.80 release. Moreover there is a refactor coming for 2.83 which should fix all driver issues. So closing.

If you can still reproduce with latest 2.82, I will reopen.
