Short description of error
Selecting one or more objects with box select tool keeps previously selected object as an active object, even though it's no longer selected.

This is not a bug - it's always how Blender worked.

The main issue is that there exists no perfect way to determine which object should then become the active one.

It could pick any object from new selection, would still make a lot more sense than keeping deselected object as active.
Besides, blender does the same thing if you box-select only one object, that's definitely a bug imo.
