Description

System Information
Operating system: Darwin-16.7.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5750 OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-1.54.2

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 74), branch: master, commit date: 2019-07-08 22:16, hash: rBa42cae160082
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Blender crashes in LookDev/EEVEE but not in Solid/Cycles while working on a procedural texture material.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Followed the String Fairy "tutorial" here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-a2HYlu6nM ) while in DevLook mode and after a certain point (I believe at 06:40) Blender consistently crashes. Switching to Cycles the problem goes away.

We require a .blend file and simple steps to reproduce the problem.

As you can see in the video, if I just open the blender and try to put it in the Look dev mode view the software closes. This occurs in all files

This information conflicts with the original report that says: "(...)while in DevLook mode and after a certain point(...)".
This indicates that this is probably another bug. So for another report.

This information you are referring to is from Rodrigo (rodrigosoueu)., who subscribed to my task because he has the same problem.
Thanks

@Germano Cavalcante (mano-wii) it's most likely the same bug because as @rafael suarez ziegelmaier (rafazig) states

if I just open the blender and try to put it in the Look dev mode view the software closes.

Here is the requested .blend file. When the render engine is changed to EEVEE and/or the Viewport is set to LookDev, Blender 2.8 crashes.

After trying to create another procedural texture, in LookDev/EEVEE Blender crashes. I suspect it's not a bug per se but possibly my iMac Mid-2010 (not exactly cutting-edge hardware any more). Again, while working in Cycles/Rendered everything works as expected. Attached is the crash log and the .blend file.

Thank you.

Jean First, yours is not exactly a control experiment. You're using an experimental build (2.81) but more importantly testing on a different model iMac with the AMD Radeon R9 M370X, which has twice the RAM (2GB) of the Radeon HD 5750 (1GB).
Further experiments with procedural materials on this model iMac lead me to believe that Blender 2.8 requires minimum a 2GB video card, as after a certain point in the node chain (I have not yet documented where exactly) Blender 2.8 crashes in LookDev/EEVEE but not in Cycles/Rendered.

Awaiting confirmation from the Blender devs.

Just adding some potentetially useful/useless information here:

I tried to recreate this material node setup simultaneuosly on the aforementioned iMac and my Dell Inspiron 3558 laptop (specs attached below) running Linux.

While painfully slow to elaborate on the Dell, Blender 2.8 never crashed, whilst Blender 2.8 on the iMac crashes consistently at this point.

System info from both attached. Thanks again.
