Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.17763 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 430.64

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 74), branch: master, commit date: 2019-07-18 14:52, hash: rB38d4483c6a51
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Even the most basic texture transformations such as rotating a texture 90° or scaling it 200% do not work with Texture mode of the Workbench viewport shading (not Eevee)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. In an empty .blend file, select default cube, create a new material and assign it some texture in base color slot
  2. Add mapping node between texture coordinate and image texture nodes to modify texture UV mapping
  3. Enable "Texture" mode of viewport workbench shading

Result: Any UV mapping transform adjustments are completely ignored
Expected: At least basic texture transforms work in workbench viewport in textured mode.

This is not a bug, the nodes plugged into the Image Texture node are not taken into account even if this would be good to support.

If this would be good to support (I'd say essential if the textured mode of workbench ever has to make any sense), then why is this closed and archived, instead of moved to some TODO? Now it will simply be forgotten unless someone else brings it up again, in which case it will be closed and archived again.

Here is an issue of similar class: https://developer.blender.org/T67446 which has been changed from Bug to TODO and mentioned in some TODO list. Does it really make sense to simply throw away essential improvements completely?

You keep trying to use the bug tracker to report usability issues or potential improvements, if every user did this we wouldn't be able to handle the amount of reports and I will not make special exceptions, please stop doing this.

Developers working on modules can create their own list of todo's and priorities, if a specific report is something they consider a to do is up to them to decide. Nearly all the time these are known limitations, a bug report about them is not new information and closing the report does not throw away anything.

Ok, I will just stop reporting them altogether as it's simply not possible to distinguish what you consider a bug from what you consider usability issue. The fact Sebastian has initially triaged it as medium priority suggests that even other memebers of BF team can't. Neither is there a clear list of known limitations where the things I've reported are listed. Let this be my very last bug report.
