Description

Version: 2.80 rc2 (Linux 64)

To reproduce:

  1. Open the example file (enable "Load UI" too)
  2. With the mouse cursor in the 3d view, play the animation using Shift + Space (or Alt + A, whatever your keymap is)
  3. Ignore the 3d view. Notice which animation editors show a moving playhead.
  4. Inspect the playback settings in the timeline editor.
  5. Disable "All 3d Viewports" and repeat step 2.
  6. Now Enable "Active Editor Only" and repeat step 2.

With certain settings, the Dope Sheet and Timeline show playback even when the Graph Editor and NLA do not. It's as if these windows think they are 3d viewports!

I can confirm.
Graphic Editor and Non-Linear Animation are not tagged for redraw.
Maybe the notifier need to specify a few more areas.

This would imply that the problem is "not enough areas are redrawn", whereas I read it as "too many areas are redrawn".

The behaviour seems to be intentional and almost according to the manual, so I wouldn't consider this a bug. The only difference is that the dope sheet behaves in the same was as the documented behaviour of the timeline.

Having said that, I conferred with @Hjalti Hjálmarsson (hjalti) and we both agree that 'Active Editor Only' should mean just that, and not 'active editor + timeline + dope sheet'. I'll convert this task into a 'To Do', as such a change would need some more input and careful thinking to get it right.
