Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.17763 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1080/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 431.70

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 75), branch: master, commit date: 2019-07-29 14:47, hash: rBf6cb5f54494e
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
After rendering with the GPU a number of times it will then constantly crash when using GPU compute. If it doesn't crash it will get CUDA errors and refuse to render.

A full reinstall and updating of Nvidia drivers was performed with no success.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
This type of crash happens even with the default scene. A coworker with a similar machine including the same video card (GTX 1080) but different CPU does not appear to be having these CUDA errors or crashes.

@Karl Northfell (GlobalKrampus) I have a similar issue if I let my machine go to sleep, it doesn't reinitialize the GPU after waking up again. Is it possible that this is related to power settings, screensaver etc?

Just to get this clear:

  • you are rendering the default scene via GPU (a number of times -- is the number fixed/reproducable?)
  • then after some unfortunate mystery you are trying to render the default scene via GPU again and get the following error cuCtxCreate: Illegal address -- or crash
  • Is this correct?

Your screenshot implies there is some other scene loaded [80M is too large for the default scene?]

  • are you really sure it is not tied to a particular scene?

(if it turns out to be tied to a particular scene, please attach that here...)

Also, since this report is a bit older [sorry btw. this has been lying around for so long...], could you check if this is still an issue with 2.81a (or a fresh build from https://builder.blender.org/download/)

I just tested scenes from that time on a newly installed 2.81a stable build and did not get any CUDA errors. There were a few crashes to desktop but they were both from older scenes using alembic files, when testing the default scene there were no crashes or CUDA errors. You can probably consider this issue closed.

Germano Cavalcante (mano-wii) claimed this task.

Thanks for the information.
In this case I will close this report and reopen what was merged here as it may be a different issue.
