blender stops working on mac

Description

This happens often but I have no steps to reproduce because it seems to happen randomly.

What happens is all selection views go away and I notice that the icons for zoom and pan turn black. I'll attach a screen shot. To fix it, I have to restart the application. I'll attach a screenshot that shows the blacked out icons.

I uploaded a screenshot and the actual blender file. I'm not sure if the file will be helpful because it happens randomly. Sometimes I can go for hours before it happens but lately it's happening more frequently.

Can you reproduce it with 2.81a and/or latest from https://builder.blender.org/download/ ?

I'll give that a try but give me a day or two. That file I sent is causing it to happen a lot but again, it seems random. I'm a UI Developer/UX Designer so I'm usually good at spotting issues and reproducing issues but this one doesn't seem to be caused by a specific action.
