Please test with old versions of Blender to see when this issue was introduced. Also your file (from the size of it) could probably be simplified to help isolate the problem.

I switched over to Non-lineair Animation, noticed stopping of the sound at frame 900, changed Frame End in Output Properties to 1800 and noticed a short block at track SoundTrack, moved it to position 0 (there also was no sound till the cursor reached this block), et voilá, sound. But distorted initially. Why?

Is it distorted when you go to Scene tab in Properties editor and click on Update Animation Cache in Audio panel? There was similar report T76452 where animated speaker (or camera) produced distorted sound. That is known issue and this button should resolve the issue manually.

Yes, it is still distorted, even in Blender 2.90.0 Alpha, up to frame 200

I can not hear any distortion. If you can please upload recording of sound that is created for reference.

So first issue seem to be resolved: just move the Audio / Sound Track in the NLA to frame 1.

As for the Distortion: I am not sure what I need to expect here, but I think I dont get that either (I do get a bit of stutter - but seems to get better with Update Animation Cache and there is some distorting, but that could be the doppler effect? at least in changes so it goes away if the camera looks down from the top)

Will update the report description accordingly.
@J-W. Versteegh (JWblender): could you share a recording of what the distortion sound like for you?
