I cannot reproduce the issue here with Blender 2.93.0 Alpha. Could you share the .blend file?

I can reproduce. Steps are as follows (Atleast for me):

  1. Start a new scene.
  2. Select the default cube and scale it or down by some amount.
  3. Enter edit mode and enable the Edge Measurement overlay. You should see a measurement on the edge of that cube that reads 2m (if you're using the meter based metric system). This is not correct as we have scaled the cube to some size other than 2mx2mx2m. This can be confirmed with the ruler.

However, I believe this has to do with local space stuff. To get the correct measurement, you have to select the object in object mode and apply its scale using Ctrl + A and selecting Scale. Or by selecting Object -> Apply -> Scale from the top of the 3D viewport.

@Alaska (Alaska) Thank you for the input. Indeed it seems like the edge length option in edit mode does not consider the object scale. @Robert Guetzkow (rjg) Is this intended? I don't see a reason why it should be this way?

The edit mode measurement seems to follow the Global/Local option selected here:

Local:

Global:
