Two issues here:

  • [1] Your cloth cache is outdated, you need to rebake it:

(this probably happened because something changed in the stack prior to the cloth modifier -- possibly the subd levels on the subdivision modifer above?)

If you do this, you'll get rid of the Number of points in cache does not match mesh" error as well as the spikes going to sculptmode.

  • [2] Sculpting with active physics modifiers is not going to give you expected results. You will alter the underlying original mesh, but this will not get feed into the simulation result, so this is not going to work out.

There might be (better) ways to communicate this [in form of documenting this or giving a popup warning in the UI], but this would not be considered a bug.

Workflow wise, you are advised to keep a copy of the sim object, but for further sculpting, apply the modifiers, see https://youtu.be/4h097E4pRCw?list=PLjEaoINr3zgGgS-N9Ews90bDAYYLoP0NO&t=986

Think we have to close this though, since this is not considered a bug.
