Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
If you delete a vertex group in edit mode, you won't be able to undo it until you switch to object mode.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Create a cube
Switch to Edit Mode
Create new Vertex Group
Delete Vertex Group
Try to undo. It won't work
Switch to Object mode. Now undo works.

Thanks for the report. Issue looks similar as described in: T71980: Undo unavailable for Remove Vertex Group in edit mode
