This is probably a duplicate of T93691. If so, you need to have the provided .blend file saved inside of an asset library together with some other assets, and do the preview image change from that library in the Asset Browser. So the instructions here are not enough to replicate the issue I think.

However I just committed a fix for this bug. I triggered a new daily build (https://builder.blender.org/admin/#/builders/4/builds/247), once that is done you can download it (https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/) and test if the issue is still here.

Removed the parts regarding parenting hierarchy support since that is a feature request, and is unrelated to this report.
