Blender Version

Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
Short description of error
[Simple deform modifier does not work properly.]
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[I am trying to create a low poly well and I have to use the simple deform modifier to bend the objects.
But when I set the Axis to z to make the object bend inwards, it deforms into a really weird shape and does not bend as I expected. When I even tried to set the origin with the eye drop tool it gives me a pop up that says failed to set value. I applied all scale, location, rotation and even tried applying origin to 3d cursor and it still does not work. ]
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]
