Worked: Never.

Additional info
This happens for both geometry and shader nodes.
It seems to work in sculpt, vertex paint, weight paint.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Go in to one of the modes.
Do things in the node editor.
Try to undo.

Hi, thanks for the report. This issue has been reported before: T71895: Undo doesn't consider changes in nodetree when object is in edit and texture paint mode
