Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19042-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: Intel(R) UHD Graphics Intel 4.5.0 - Build 27.20.100.8681

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.0.0 Beta, branch: master, commit date: 2021-11-20 16:50, hash: rB1b2ee3cf2077
Worked: 2.93

Short description of error
Undo does not work as expected in the shader editor. Many Undo steps that show in the undo history do nothing and sometimes, a single undo jumps back many steps, loosing all work, which can be brought back with a redo command (so long as you don't mistakenly do something else)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Work on a material in the shader editor for a while,
try undoing multiple steps and nothing changes, leaving me stuck on the last change.

Hi, thanks for the report. Could you please provide simple test file?

try undoing multiple steps and nothing changes, leaving me stuck on the last change.

May be not similar to T71895 since 2.93 works for you

This report indicates that 2.93 is working. @Franklyn Afeso (afeso) please double check and confirm if this is correct. If it is please provide more concrete steps to reproduce, that work in 2.93 but not in latest build.

Hi, Its not a consistent issue. It tends to happen though, on heavy scenes (for my laptop) while eevee is enabled.

I don't know if this is related, but this same scene, occasionally stops rendering lights (sun, area, point) in eevee (HDR still works), and I have to do multiple restarts sometimes, for lights to work.

The thing is, It has a character with a library override, so I'm not sure how I can share that.

Thanks,

Main reason why I asked for clarification is that there is issue where many changes would be undone in single step, but this happens when you are not in object mode. So this could look like sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I could have been more upfront about that.

You can upload more than one file, but it is best if you can demonstrate this issue with as simple file as possible.

Thanks for the clarification.

Here's a recording of what happens. I tried to explain as best as I could. hope this helps.

Can you check if this happens when you click on FIle > Defaults > Load Factory Settings?

In your video when you used undo history, you went into future, and to point where node has same value it had at the time of jump. Does than "the dot" in undo history move? Or is it not working at all?
Can you click on Window > Toggle System Console and check if there are some logs when undo fails?

Hi,

The Dot moves, but when this starts to happen, There's no change the the viewport or the node tree. it usually just retains the last action I did.

Can you also confirm there are no logs on undo?

Does it help when you save and reload file or do you have to restart Blender? Or perhaps PC?

I'll need to check on the logs again when next it happens.

The issue though persisted after saves and restarts. (but usually happens after I've been working for while, so I don't immediately notice it.

If it persists after restarting PC, then it could be only issue within file or hardware issue. If it is issue within file, please upload the file in broken state, otherwise we can't reproduce the problem. With hardware issues we can't help at all.

@Franklyn Afeso (afeso) Is this still an issue?

Franklyn Afeso (afeso) added a comment.Dec 13 2021, 2:15 PM

Actually, Its been working fine since the Official 3.0 Release. I haven't noticed this issue since I installed it.

So, sorry for not coming back to report it
