Description

System Information
Operating system: macOS Monterey 12.0.1
Graphics card: Apple M1

Blender Version
Broken: 2.93.3
Worked: -unknown-

Short description of error

Blender was installed successfully on my admin account. After switching to a different user account (non-admin), I was unable to launch Blender. Blender seems to crash immediately.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Log in to an admin user account.
  2. Download Blender for macOS 64-bit Intel.
  3. Mount the downloaded DMG.
  4. Drag Blender.app from the disk image to /Applications.
  5. Log in to a different user account.
  6. Try to launch Blender.

Blender appears to crash immediately and the crash reporter offers to send a report to Apple. However, clicking the Report... button just closes the prompt without showing a report (unexpected, but Apple's fault).

The culprit seems to be a lack of directory search permissions on certain directories inside of the app bundle. The following command shows them.

find /Applications/Blender.app -perm u=rwx -ls

After setting the search bit on those directories, the problem is solved.

find /Applications/Blender.app -perm u=rwx -exec chmod go+x \{\} \+

There's a chance this is a duplicate of T93236. Can you attempt to download the 2.93.7 Release Candidate build and give it another try: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/

Yes, it works! I downloaded 2.93.7 RC and tested it. Problem solved!

I know I should have found the earlier report. I did a couple text searches but clearly wasn't very thorough. I will try harder next time.

Thank you!
