Short description of error
Blender crash when trying to assign custom thumbnail in asset browser

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Go to a blender file.
Mark a material as asset.
Go to asset browser, N panel, custom thumbnail button
Pick an image (png)
Blender crashes

I've no addon save the default, I just did a clean blender install
the console give me this error:
Error : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

I was able to reproduce crash, but I had to do more than 30 attempts and then failed to reproduce in debug build, so can't really confirm if it is same cause of crash.

Does this crash every single time you try to assign custom thumbnail? Or only sometimes?
Can you check if this happens with latest alpha build from https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/?

I have the exact same crash. Happens on almost all of my assets when trying to add custom thumbnails. There is one specific model, though, that it did work once.

@carlos campos (carlosgc) if crash happens in latest alpha build please create new report, Not sure if yours is same case as in this report.

I have the same crash. The asset blend file and thumbnail .png (Control Surface) attached. Happens 100% of the time.

Your issue could be similar to: T93691

Please submit a separate report if crash appears on recent 3.1.0 build.

Hi Steve, good to know that worked for you!

Also, No activity for more than a week (from ticket author). As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.
