Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
crash when adding a custom asset thumbnail

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
marked object as asset, selected in browser, click load custom preview, select jpg, blender crashes.

Hi, thanks for the report. Similar report was submitted before: T93691
Try to download latest 3.1.0 alpha from this page:
https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/
If all working as expected, most likely it's same bug. Fix for it will be available in corrective 3.0.1 release later.
