@Gon Solo (gonsolo) : just to make sure: we are talking about this icon?

Color indicates it is an object and the object data is a collection (which is already included in the table of data block types.
What would you suggest to explain here?

No, this one:

I found in the documentation that it is an instance collection but I had to search for awhile.
Adding information about the icon to the data block page would be nice, a tool tip even better, a tool tip with a link to the documentation perfect.

Thanks,
g

Sorry this took a bit to answer.
Think this is the same icon, no?

Again: What would you suggest to explain here?

No, the Collection icon is one folder, the Collection Instance icon is two folders.

Again: What would you suggest to explain here?

The "Collection Instance" icon (two folders) which is different from the "Collection" icon (one folder) is not explained at
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/files/data_blocks.html

BTW, my first response bounced due to a misconfigured email server:

The response from the remote server was:

Sorry, was on parental leave for a bit.
Get the difference now (one vs. two boxes/folders).
This is about a Collection being a "real" ID (only these are listed in that documentation page)
A Collection Instance is really an Object (in terms of ID type -- as stated before), the objects data is a Collection.
So the "real" ID datablocks (object and collection) already have their representation in that documentation page, dont think it is really a fault to not include the collection instance icon there.
Of course, documentation can always be better, nothing would keep us from mentioning it (but also stating that this is no "real" ID), but this seems to be in the greyzone for not belonging to this bugtracker.

@Gon Solo (gonsolo) : makes sense? (Collection Instance not being a "real" ID/datablock?)

Any update here? Otherwise I suggest to close it.
