I'm not seeing that this older version, nor any version, behaving as you described. I tried 2.93, 2.91, 2.79

I see it.

This is done automagically by the OS if the program that is running also has a shortcut to it. That shortcut can be in the Start Menu, Desktop, or taskbar. If such a shortcut exists then Windows will allow that middle-click to launch a new instance.

However, we are now making shortcuts to the (new) launcher, not the regular executable, which breaks this functionality. I think this might also affect the list of recent documents.

@Ray Molenkamp (LazyDodo) - The following seems to hint that it is the path to fixing both issues, but not quite understanding it: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/shell/appids

With some manual hacking in the registry i managed to get the history working again, need to find a way to neatly register this from blender though.

I reported the same thing here : T93994 and I solved it like this :

  • The first time I want to add a shortcut, I used the shortcut in the Start Menu and right-click on it : add to Taskbar.
  • I opened Blender with this new icon, deleted this new icon and right-clicked on the icon created by the opened .blend file and then clicked on "Add to Taskbar" and it works.
