Blender 3.0.0 crashes when uploading custom thumbnail form newly created assets in assets browser. i downloaded some plants assets and marked them assets. default thumbnails are bad so tried to add custom thumbnail. when I select the thumbnail from within blender it crashes.
Cannot reproduce here.
Does this happen for the Default Cube as well?
If not, please add an example .blend file where this happens.
Also, could you provide crash logs?
Please open Blender's installation directory and double click on the blender_debug_gpu.cmd. This will start Blender in debug mode and create log files. Try to reproduce the error again. Once it crashes or you close Blender manually the Windows Explorer should open and show you up to two files, a debug log and the system information. Add them to your bug report by clicking on the upload button as shown in the screenshot below or via drag and drop. Please also upload the crash log located in C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Temp\[project name].crash.txt (or simply type %TEMP% into the path bar of the Windows Explorer).
Triaging Note: This seems very familiar, as in I think it was reported before, and might be patched in master.

It might be same as T93691 that already got fixed. Please try the latest daily build and see if issue is still here: https://builder.blender.org/download/
