Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows
Graphics card: Intel Iris Plus

Blender Version
Broken: 3.0.0
Worked: 2.93.0

Short description of error
If there is a reference or an object with an image texture that is a video file (I have tested .mp4 and .MOV), and select "Auto Refresh", it will close after a few seconds of playback. When it closes, the screen doesn't freeze, and there is no "Not Responding" message.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
First, delete the default cube. Then add a reference image with a video file (I have tried with .mp4 and .MOV). Next, in the object data properties tab of the image, select "Auto Refresh". Finally, play the scene from the beggining of the timeline. After about 5-15 seconds, the file should close without any warning.

Thanks for the report. Looks same problem as described in T94266: Crash with Movieclip background in Camera view
Are you able to reproduce crash on recent 3.1.0 build?: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily

Also, I am not able to reproduce crash on both 3.0.0 and 3.1.0.
Are these steps you are following to reproduce the crash?

  • Open default scene
  • delete Cube
  • AddImageReferencea Video clip
  • Enable "Auto Refresh"
  • Play animation

I forgot to mention in the steps to lengthen the frames of the timeline and the image to about 600 as everytime it closes after the 516th frame.
3.0.0 still crashes, even after I reinstalled it and it also crashes with 3.0.1, but doesn't with 3.1.0, so I can use that.
I think the cause is the same as the bug you mentioned, as their crash occurred at frames 514-517. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for checking.

I reinstalled it and it also crashes with 3.0.1

Fix will also be in corrective release (already added to the list: T93479: 3.0 Potential candidates for corrective releases)
