Mesh complexity appears to be obliterated with GPU Subdivision ON & Autosmooth Normals disabled.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Create a new mesh with GPU Subdivision on
Disable autosmooth & apply a subdivision modifier
Check visibility with Face Selection Vertex/Weight paint or Mesh Analysis

And here I was thinking I had checked thoroughly enough for a similar report!
