Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Visual artifacting in the viewport and system hang followed by system crash on switching to rendered view with GPU Compute enabled and Vega 56 selected as HIP Device.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
on default startup with latest WHQL drivers for Vega, 22.3.1, select Vega as the HIP Compute Device.
Switch to rendered view in the viewport
Select Cycles as render engine
Select GPU Compute under Render Device
