Short description of error
The custom property preview is not working for a property of type "String". But it shows the correct value when you hit the gear icon to change the value.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Add a custom property to the default cube.
  2. Hit the gear icon and change the type to "String", add a value and hit OK.
  3. Now you see that the value in the preview is 1.0 and not what you set.

We already have T96825: Custom Properties's default value for this - and it was not considered a bug (please have a look at that task for an explanation why this happens).
Thx reporting, will merge reports.

Thanks for the report. This isn't a bug though. What you typed for "Test" is the default value of the property, not the value itself. The value itself is created by converting the previous property value to a string.
