Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 21H2
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER

Blender Version
Broken: Blender 3.0 -> Blender 3.2.2 Stable

Short description of error
I have issue with crashing (just closing) Blender.
Sometimes Blender is crashing when I try to go into the Preferences, or use Open file dialog.

After Blender crash I cant start it again until I reboot my computer.
While I open Blender after crash I see cmd with information about loading preferences file, and that's it.

there's a gif

I don't receive any error message, also I can't find any logs after running "blender_debug_log.cmd" inside "blender_debug_output.txt" (empty file).

Got this issue for about half year, I was hoping that reinstalling Windows will help, but unfortunately it didn't help.
Can I ask for any information, where should I look for any logs?

Factory startup is not helping either.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Most often it happens when I'm trying to go into any Blender dialogs (this time Preferences button started this issue).
That was happening also when I opened file dialog inside Blender.

Hello @Robert Guetzkow (rjg)!
I found that, you was responding to similar issue (https://developer.blender.org/T80447).
Can you help me with gaining more informations what's causing that issue, and how can I stop it?
I really want to dig into that problem, because it's slowly driving me crazy while work.
Cheers! :)

Based on the description this seems like an issue outside of Blender, especially when you are unable to start it again without a reboot.

If you are able to (occasionally) open Blender with blender_debug_log.cmd, please upload the resulting system information (blender_system_info.txt). You can also check the Windows Event Viewer for additional information once a crash has occurred (Windows Logs > Application or Windows Logs > System). If you can find entries relating to the crash, you can upload a screenshot or copy & paste the content.

For sure!
I'll replace my default Blender launcher with ('blender_debug_log.cmd').
As soon I'll get any informations I'll drop them here.
Thank you!

Hi, any updates?

Hello, Blender crashed again (pretty long time when he was stable).
Uploading debug_logs.
In Event Viewer I can't find any related informations.
Blender crashed after pressing Import > Alembic.

Crash occurred at 13:59~.

@Gad (gadas) The log does not report any crash. It seems that you have invalid custom normals on one of your meshes which could indicate some corrupted data structures in project "Weed_Dandellion_D_spring-summer.blend".

The event viewer does not show anything interesting in the system tab. Could you please check if the application tab recorded any relevant events at the time of the crash?

@Robert Guetzkow (rjg) hello, unfortunately I can't find any related events of this time. It looks like Event Viewer is not seeing anything when this crash occurs.
Also I think this crash is not related to project, I had same issue while ago, on fresh open Blender (PC start -> open Blender), while going to preferences.

Unfortunately, there is little information to investigate this further. As of now it seems that the issue is occuring outside of Blender e.g. an issue with the graphics driver or OS, given that the issue extends beyond the specific instance of Blender and no crash logs being written.

If this problem happens again, please double check whether the event viewer logs any relevant issues in the application tab.

@Gad (gadas) hi, can you still reliably reproduce this issue? Does factory reset solve the initial crash?: File โ†’ Defaults โ†’ Load Factory Settings
Maybe irrelevant, do you've any anti-virus software?
@Robert Guetzkow (rjg), any chances that anti-virus would stop blender from executing after the first crash?

@Pratik Borhade (PratikPB2123) That would be possible. However, we don't have enough information on this issue to draw a conclusion. Your guess is as good as mine.
