Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.22000-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 517.40

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.3.0, branch: master, commit date: 2022-09-06 15:39, hash: rB0759f671ce1f
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
I have an asus UX8402 with dual screens, I attached a 3rd screen through USB-C.

when I use a new main window on the USB-C monitor, blender keeps loading render kernel on the inactive window if I move, touch, or do anything in the active window.

This happens even in a brand new file with only a cube in the scene.

when I bring back the windows on the laptop screen, and not the USB-C screen, that does not happen at all.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Use a USB-C screen, (I don't have a second laptop to try this, but I will try to find and reproduce on a different system and see if it is related to USB-C only or not).
  • Open a default scene or any other scene.
  • Move the main window to the USB-C monitor
  • Set Viewport Render to Shading

if it would be of any help, I will post links to both laptop and USB-C display manufacturer page.

I improved the description, as the report lacked clear steps to reproduce the problem.
But I don't have a USB-C to check the problem.

Risking a guess, I don't think the problem is the USB-C because if that was the case other users should have already reported the same problem.

So please double-check if the drivers are up to date.

To upgrade to the latest driver, see here for more information: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/gpu/index.html

Also try the latest development snapshot of blender: https://builder.blender.org/download

Apologies for the missing steps, my first time adding here and I tried my best, next times I will be more clear.

GPU drivers are the latest Studio Drivers from nvidia, and I have updated windows to the latest build. I did not have this problem with my previous laptop, which is the previous gen of the same make, UX482. I used the same type C cable and same display, but what I didn't have back then is blender 3.3 LTS that is the variable that is not the same as well as the laptop and windows 11.

I have downloaded the latest build on the website (blender-3.3.1-candidate+v33.58e78c1ffe4b-windows.amd64-release)
I can confirm the issue is still there, and only when the other window is on the external display, when I just click on any item in the outline it keeps redoing the render even though I did not touch that window.

So to make it simple because I feel I am confusing with my way of explaining it.

Display A is laptop, Display B is external.

when both windows are on display A, no weird issues happen whatever I do.
when I have one window in display B, and I click any item in the outliner on display B, the windows in Display A will re-render the scene.
If I click on any item on display A, the window in display B will re-render.

This happens even with the default startup. and I am not sure if this is related only to my laptop or if it is related to windows 11 and the drivers.

if there is anything else you want me to try please do let me know I will try my best to help.

I bought a new USB-C cable (needed shorter one anyways) and tried, issue is still there.

On my main workstation I never faced this, and I don't think it is the USB cable.

I read somewhere deleting optix cache can solve loading render kernel but I cannot seem to find the location of such said folder.

Have you checked if this cache file is in %LOCALAPPDATA%\NVIDIA\OptixCache?

This seems identical to T96248, so I will join both reports.
