Short description of error
Tried with the old example given in the text for the series in the rip vertices, a plane subdivided by 3. With Alt-D the drag the mouse creating this strange appearance, with hole on the geometry:

Then if one change to Axis Orthographic to 'Z' (in this case), the hole is gone, leaving me in a rather confusing state of mind.

This image, however, is rather different from the example image given in the manual:

https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/_images/modeling_meshes_editing_vertex_rip-vertices-fill_result.png

The original loop cut is no longer there, where as it exists in the example image.

I initially thought I was wrong, but checked again on the manual, it says Alt+D for rip, extend. Please see new log as I closed this by mistake and do not know how to revert the action and log status back to active.

The problem seems to be in the manual and not the operator.
The aforementioned "holes" are actually the effect of shading with extreme values of normal (caused by the face somewhat contorted). They're not holes.

If the problem is in the manual, this should be made clear in the report, including a link where we can see the inconsistency.

Thank you for the feedback, it is as you've said, the effect of normal values, as I turned on the Face Orientation in the Viewport Overlays I can see the red color:

I was following the manual text in this page:

https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/modeling/meshes/editing/vertex/rip_vertices_extend.html

This tool takes any number of selected vertices and duplicate-drags them along the closest edge to the mouse. When extending an edge loop, it extends the vertices at the endpoints of the loop. The behavior is similar to the Extrude tool, but it creates an n-gon.

Thank you.
