Do any of the New File options cause the crash?

Would there be any way for you to provide the crash log generated by the MacOS?

Yes. I use the General layout, and haven't used the others. So it is the New General File menu that causes the crash.

Can you test the others then?

Thanks for the file.
It is unfortunately unclear, at least to me, which part of the code causes the crash. Maybe it's some external device driver.

Many bugs are fixed between the official releases. Please try the latest development snapshot of blender: https://builder.blender.org/download

I tried the other New Files menu items and they seem to work. What other information do you need?

I can't replicate the problem.
So for my part, there's not much I can do.

While this is a real issue, it is only happening to a few people so far. And to troubleshoot it developers needs to have direct access to hardware. And even then it is not clear whether it's a solvable problem from Blender side.

Can't reproduce either. One thing that comes to mind is to check whether this happens when you click on File > Defaults > Save Startup File and then open new file.

Yes, as stated in the original submission, it works on the default startup as well.

Yes, you can delete content of ~/Library/Application\ Support/Blender, this way Blender will start with fresh settings and default startup file.
