Short description of error
Volume in EEVEE shows artifact. This happens when specific conditions (described below) are met.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • From the startup file add volume material to the cube.
  • Set the light type to Sun.
  • Enable high bit depth shadow in EEVEE render setting. (You don't need to enable volumetric shadows.)
  • Add any mesh object.

Please open Blender's installation directory and double click on the blender_debug_gpu.cmd. This will start Blender in debug mode and create log files. Try to reproduce the error again. Once it crashes or you close Blender manually the Windows Explorer should open and show you up to two files, a debug log and the system information. Add them to your bug report by clicking on the upload button as shown in the screenshot below or via drag and drop. Please also upload the crash log located in C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Temp\[project name].crash.txt (or simply type %TEMP% into the path bar of the Windows Explorer).

This seems to be the same core issue as T101675. Looks like the latest AMD drivers are causing many related issues.

Looks like this issue is not related to T101675.

I still see the issue with latest driver (22.11.2) and still get the ERROR (gpu.debug): : GL_INVALID_FRAMEBUFFER_OPERATION : Cubemap Workaround End9 from the debug log.
